DANDENONG RANGES
Lush tree ferns, mammoth gums, the call of
lyrebirds and the scent of eucalypt after the
rain. All these things and more draw
thousands of visitors to Sherbrooke Forest and
the nearby villages. Just an hour’s drive from
the heart of downtown Melbourne, Kallista
embraces you as you escape from the frantic
city pace to relax and enjoy the natural beauty
of the forest.
A delight for the senses and spirit, Kallista offers a
refreshing haven of natural beauty to visitors year
round. Many of the works in our gallery reflect the
serenity you find here. Our artists make it possible

ARTISTIC TRADITION
Historically visited by Wurrundjeri and the Woiwurung peoples, Kallista and the surrounding area is also home to artists associated with the Heidelberg School. Tom Roberts owned a residence here and spent his final days in Kallista. Some of his well known landscape paintings depict scenes in and around our village. His well known painting “Country Road Makers”, for example, shows
the northern side of Cook’s Corner on the Kallista-Emerald Road. That heritage continues today, with local artists who create unique and beautiful works which will enhance your home.

OUR WELCOME TO YOU
Chapel Gallery Kallista is an arts and crafts
venue offering the work of local artists to the
public. The gallery brings financial support to
our parish and to local artists. It provides an
ongoing and visible contact for our church
with the community. Chapel Gallery Kallista
fits in with local culture and provides an
attractive outreach to residents and visitors.
Our low operating costs allow us to keep our
commission rates down. That means our
artists can offer their work to you at the lowest
possible price..

.
THE STORY OF OUR GALLERY
From 2000-2006 Sherbrooke Uniting Parish
hosted an annual art show and sale, using the
Kallista Uniting Church meeting hall as the
venue. The unquestioned success of these events
demonstrates that we can make our church an
active participant of community life. The love
and fellowship our faith inspires extends beyond
Sunday morning services.

We have taken our successful annual program
and expanded it into a permanent gallery offering
beautiful gifts and decorative items you and your
loved ones will enjoy owning or giving.

OUR MISSION
To our community, Sherbrooke Uniting Church
Parish provides fellowship and regular worship
services, a faith home in the hills. Chapel Gallery
Kallista is one way in which we extend a
welcoming hand to our neighbours, offering a
warm and comfortable place to relax, a place
where locals and visitors can mingle, enjoy the
beautiful scenery and the lovely works of local
artists.
To our artists, the gallery continues the timehonoured
traditional connection between church
and art. Our gallery offers artists a place where
their works can be admired and purchased by
people who value fine original Australian art.
To our customers, Chapel Gallery Kallista offers
outstanding original pieces produced by some of
the area’s finest artists. With works of many
types and a wide range of prices, we have
something for you no matter how large or small
your budget.

OUR TEAM
Staffed and administered entirely by
volunteers, our gallery is a unique experiment
in church fundraising with a local flair. Come
spend some time with us and enjoy a “cuppa”
in our gallery café.
After selecting your art treasure, round off
your day by visiting the excellent restaurants
and other shops nearby. You’ll be so glad you
visited us in Kallista!

ART IN THE HILLS
Chapel Gallery Kallista is located in the centre
of Kallista. As a retail establishment in the
hills, we benefit from being part of the artistic
and cultural environment which includes
Belgrave, Emerald , Kalorama, Monbulk,
Olinda, Sassafras, Selby, Sherbrooke, Tecoma
and Upwey. The uniquely beautiful
surrounding of Sherbrooke Forest attracts
visitors throughout the year who come here
for a refreshing break from the city. Visitors
look forward to sight-seeing and strolling
through local shops and galleries. The
tradition of small retail venues offering unique
items for sale is well established here.
